What you will do

  • Design quantitative studies of wholesale electricity prices, system loads, fuel costs, portfolio positions, and market risks.
  • Analyze transmission congestion, Financial Transmission Rights, Auction Revenue Rights, nodal pricing, and ISO/RTO settlements.
  • Build and run modeling scenarios for unit commitment, dispatch, energy purchases and sales, constrained resources, and generation offers.
  • Develop short-term load forecasts and evaluate plant, contract, fuel, and market conditions.
  • Perform post-analysis and benchmarking to improve dispatch efficiency, sales costing, and purchasing and trading processes.
  • Translate quantitative findings into recommendations for traders, risk management, regulatory teams, management, and operations personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, engineering, applied sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong programming, statistical, analytical, and quantitative problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of wholesale electricity markets, commodity trading, portfolio or risk management, or utility operations.
  • Understanding of nodal electricity markets, LMP formation, transmission congestion, binding constraints, and ISO/RTO settlements.
  • Experience with Python analytical libraries, SQL, data pipelines, dashboards, or comparable analytical technologies.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to traders, management, regulatory personnel, and other stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Mechanical engineering background or power plant operations experience.
  • At least six months of experience with generation-cost modeling software such as PLEXOS, Aurora, ProSym, PROMOD, or Gentrader.
  • Experience with FTRs, ARRs, congestion hedging, MISO, or other organized wholesale electricity markets.
  • Experience with generation-cost, production-cost, or power-flow modeling applications.
