Salary: $62,400–$93,600 per year; pay range is specific to the Greenbelt, Maryland area.

What you will do

• Fabricate precision optical components through grinding, lapping, polishing, edging, beveling, and finishing.
• Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and program CNC optical fabrication equipment.
• Interpret optical drawings, prescriptions, and fabrication specifications.
• Perform precision measurements and inspection of optical components.
• Develop fabrication approaches for new and complex optics with engineers and technicians.
• Maintain equipment, process documentation, and quality records.

Requirements

• Several years of hands-on optical fabrication experience.
• Experience operating and programming CNC equipment, preferably for optical fabrication.
• Experience with precision optical metrology and inspection.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and optical specifications.
• Mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Knowledge of laboratory practices, equipment calibration, ISO-related quality standards, documentation, reporting, and basic statistical analysis.

Nice to have

• Experience with laser, aerospace, or scientific optics.
• Understanding of the NASA flight hardware development process and methodology.
