Environmental Health & Safety Co-Op (Environmental Science)

Location: Austin, TX; assignment at the Burnet, TX facility. Onsite, full time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., January through June 2027.

Compensation: $20-$30 per hour, depending on overall qualifications.

What you will do

• Lead two high-impact environmental projects at the Burnet facility focused on air emissions and water discharge.
• Map air and water emission sources using environmental monitoring data, analytical testing, and measurement technologies.
• Evaluate existing and newly acquired scrubbers and support development of an optimized deployment strategy.
• Partner with Facilities, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Development, external laboratories, engineering consultants, and technology manufacturers.
• Support installation, operation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive-maintenance planning for emissions-control equipment.
• Develop emissions projections aligned with the site's five- to ten-year growth forecast and support EPA compliance and sustainability objectives.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with an expected graduation date of December 2027 or later.
• Degree or relevant studies in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field; a bachelor's degree is required and a master's degree or higher is preferred.
• Hands-on ability with chemical-processing equipment and air and water testing instrumentation.
• Experience with Excel and pivot tables.
• Strong analytical skills for assessing data relevance and accuracy.
• Must be able to work 40 hours per week onsite from January through June and meet university co-op participation requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience working with third-party laboratories and consultants on factory HVAC systems and monitoring-data analysis.
