TL;DR
Technical Project Manager (Renewable Energy Forecasting): Delivering real-time meteorological and power forecasting solutions for wind and solar asset owners, utilities, grid operators, and energy traders with an accent on customer-facing project delivery, cross-functional coordination, and data-driven forecasting. Focus on translating customer requirements into technical specifications, managing performance and reliability requirements, and supporting machine learning-enabled forecasting systems.

Location: Hybrid with 3 days on-site at any UL office in the United States, or fully remote if not located near a UL office. Listed offices include Albany, New York; Northbrook, Illinois; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Austin, Texas.

Salary: $95,000–$115,000 annually, plus an annual bonus with a 10% target payout.

What you will do

  • Manage the full project lifecycle, including scoping, budgeting, contracting, implementation, and customer launch.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical specifications, project plans, schedules, backlogs, and work assignments.
  • Coordinate meteorologists, data scientists, software engineers, IT professionals, and renewable energy experts to deliver forecasting solutions.
  • Manage contractual performance, reliability, latency, service requirements, risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Lead customer meetings, project reviews, technical discussions, proposals, and proof-of-concept demonstrations.
  • Support forecasting system enhancements, infrastructure initiatives, customer customizations, research and development, and critical operational incidents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, atmospheric science, meteorology, computer science, mathematics, physics, energy systems, or another quantitative discipline.
  • 3+ years of customer-facing project management experience in renewable energy, utilities, energy services, software, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience working with renewable energy asset owners, utilities, grid operators, energy traders, or other energy industry stakeholders.
  • Understanding of renewable energy forecasting, energy markets, grid operations, or meteorological data applications.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts used in forecasting systems, including model performance evaluation.
  • Experience with project and work management tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps, plus strong stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving, and risk management skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with renewable energy forecasting, energy trading, SCADA systems, APIs, cloud platforms, or operational data integration.
  • Experience in Data-as-a-Service, Software-as-a-Service, or other technology-enabled service delivery environments.
