TL;DR
Research Scientist, Spatial AI & Perception (Robotics) (SLAM/3D reconstruction/VLA): Building real-time perception and state-estimation systems for Atlas alongside offline 3D reconstruction pipelines that generate geometric data for VLM/VLA training, with an accent on spatial reasoning, sensor fusion, and geometric perception. What you will do

  • Design and implement real-time SLAM and perception-based state estimation for Atlas and specialized data collection devices.
  • Build offline 3D reconstruction pipelines using multi-view geometry, SfM/MVS, neural reconstruction, and depth/pose fusion.
  • Develop spatial AI research that grounds language and vision in 3D geometry for semantic scene reasoning.
  • Combine classical geometric methods, optimization-based estimation, and learned representations.
  • Generate geometric scene structures that inform and supervise large VLM/VLA model training.
  • Write maintainable C++ and Python code within a large production codebase and test systems on humanoid hardware.

Requirements

  • PhD in Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent research experience.
  • Experience building and deploying SLAM, visual odometry, or 3D reconstruction systems for robots or autonomous vehicles.
  • Strong knowledge of real-time SLAM, visual-inertial odometry, state estimation, 3D reconstruction, or sensor fusion.
  • Understanding of Lie groups, nonlinear optimization, and multi-view geometry.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to write reliable research code in C++ and Python.

Nice to have

  • Experience with PyTorch or JAX and with perception outputs used in large-scale model training.
  • Experience building reconstruction or data pipelines for large vision or VLA models.
  • Familiarity with VLA or large behavior models and spatial grounding for manipulation and long-horizon behavior.
  • Publications in leading computer vision, machine learning, or robotics conferences.
