Staff Machine Learning Engineer (Autonomous Driving)

Location: Remote in the United States or hybrid in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Salary: $215,500–$258,600 USD annually, plus bonus and stock options

What you will do

• Lead the technical roadmap and development of BEV perception models for detection, segmentation, road topology, and scene understanding.
• Design multi-modal architectures that fuse camera, LiDAR, radar, and HD map data into unified spatial representations.
• Develop foundational perception models using BEV transformers, voxel-based encoders, and implicit scene representations.
• Own large-scale data sampling, augmentation, distributed training, and hyperparameter optimization workflows.
• Improve robustness and generalization in low-visibility, occluded, and rare driving scenarios.
• Build evaluation frameworks and collaborate with calibration, mapping, and fusion teams while mentoring ML engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in deep learning for perception, 3D vision, and/or autonomous systems.
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Expertise in BEV modeling, 3D scene understanding, multi-view fusion, and camera-LiDAR sensor integration.
• Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience with large-scale data pipelines, distributed training, experiment management, and ML model innovation.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and experience mentoring engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Production experience in autonomous driving or robotics perception.
• Experience with MLOps and Ray.
• Experience with 3D labeling, calibration, sensor simulation, or spatial-temporal modeling.
• Publications or open-source contributions in venues such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICRA, or CoRL.
• Understanding of latency, memory, accuracy, and other deployment tradeoffs.
