Lead Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote New York, United States; occasional travel to hirify.global offices may be required.

Salary: $155,200–$213,400 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Own AI products from initial concept through MVP, pilot, and production readiness.
• Build and launch proofs of concept and working MVPs, using feedback and real-world usage data to iterate.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, clinicians, and data stakeholders to translate care workflows into AI features.
• Define architecture and technology decisions while balancing delivery speed, scalability, maintainability, and operational risk.
• Design, deploy, and monitor AI systems in compliance with HIPAA and responsible AI standards.
• Oversee software quality assurance, testing, debugging, and resolution of complex software issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience and demonstrated ownership of complex AI systems from architecture through production.
• Hands-on experience with large language models, orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex, and AI-assisted development tools.
• Strong proficiency in Python, TypeScript, and modern machine learning tooling such as Hugging Face or PyTorch.
• Experience deploying RAG pipelines, vector search systems, model fine-tuning approaches, and multi-agent AI systems in production.
• Understanding of HIPAA requirements and secure handling of protected health information is required.

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare, clinical informatics, or another highly regulated industry.
• Experience building LLM and agent evaluation frameworks and automated evaluation pipelines.
• Exposure to clinical NLP, medical coding, or EHR/FHIR data standards.
• Experience operating AI systems at scale on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
