Senior AI Engineer, Legal - USA Remote

Location: USA - Remote; 10–25% travel for meetings and conferences

Salary: $185,000–$200,000 annually, plus bonus or incentive pay

What you will do

• Partner with attorneys and compliance professionals to identify automation opportunities and translate legal workflows into trusted technical solutions.
• Design and build AI-powered applications for contract review, legal research, regulatory analysis, and compliance using LLMs, RAG, and agentic AI.
• Develop scalable ingestion, parsing, chunking, embedding, indexing, and document-processing pipelines for contracts, playbooks, and regulatory filings.
• Ship and monitor production applications using Python and/or TypeScript, LLM APIs, orchestration frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Build evaluation pipelines, test sets, and quality metrics for accurate, consistent, and defensible legal AI outputs.
• Implement security, access management, audit logging, PII redaction, data residency controls, and governance while mentoring legal users and collaborating with IT and Data & AI teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data science, or machine learning engineering, including shipping production applications.
• Production experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG, agent and tool use, and evaluation frameworks.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience with AI/ML libraries or orchestration tools such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Hugging Face.
• Experience with AI development tools, vector databases, cloud platforms, API design, Docker, Kubernetes, data pipelines, and large-scale document processing.
• Interest or experience in legal, compliance, or regulatory domains.

Nice to have

• Experience deploying AI in regulated industries such as life sciences, healthcare, financial services, or legal.
• Experience with multi-step agentic workflows, human-in-the-loop oversight, tool calling, MCP servers, and structured outputs.
• Knowledge of enterprise AI governance, responsible AI, bias testing, explainability, and the EU AI Act.
• Master’s degree, advanced degree, or proficiency in TypeScript or Java.
