LLM Specialist (AI)

Location: Fully remote within the United States, operating on Eastern Time; expected hours are 9:00 AM–5:00 PM ET. Occasional travel for training and project meetings is expected at less than 5% per year. Conditions list Columbia, Maryland.

Salary: $104,900–$145,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and operationalize LLM and generative AI capabilities across a cloud-based analytics ecosystem.
• Own architecture and strategy for fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic frameworks, and domain-specific model adaptation.
• Develop prototypes and scalable LLM pipelines, including model training, inference, evaluation, and performance optimization.
• Establish governance, security, monitoring, responsible AI practices, and model lifecycle management.
• Partner with engineering, product, and data teams; evaluate emerging LLM technologies and define technical best practices.

Requirements

• Must be eligible for U.S. Federal Government public trust clearance. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or qualify through the Foreign National Government System.
• Foreign-national candidates must have lived in the United States for at least 3 of the previous 5 years and hold a valid passport and appropriate visa or work permit documentation.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, information systems, or a related technical field, plus 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience designing, developing, integrating, and supporting LLM and generative AI solutions, including transformer-based architectures, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and model evaluation.
• Experience implementing RAG solutions with embeddings, vector databases, retrieval pipelines, and search optimization.
• Strong Python skills; experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or comparable frameworks; and experience deploying AI/ML solutions in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of MLOps/LLMOps, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, security, and responsible AI practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-agent systems, LLM evaluation frameworks, structured benchmarking, or human-in-the-loop refinement.
• Knowledge of hybrid search, graph retrieval, long-context optimization, quantization, model compression, or distillation.
• Experience integrating LLM services with Databricks, Snowflake, Spark, or other large-scale analytics environments.
• Experience with exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, data modeling, innovative generative AI prototypes, or emerging architectures such as mixture-of-experts models.
