TL;DR

Staff Software Engineer (C/C++ and Python packaging): Building and taking into production the toolchain that compiles complex Python packages such as NumPy, SciPy, and PyTorch from source with an accent on build reliability, packaging automation, and cross-platform systems. Focus on designing compilation and linking tooling, evolving release infrastructure, resolving build incidents, and guiding technical architecture.

Location: Germany; fully remote setup

What you will do

Build and productionize toolchains that compile complex packages such as NumPy, SciPy, and PyTorch from source.
Create and review conda recipes, build tooling, and release processes for reliable compiled packages.
Collaborate with pure Python wheels and distribution teams on automation and infrastructure.
Mentor engineers on architecture, debugging, and packaging practices.
Lead postmortems, capacity planning, and incident response for build and distribution infrastructure.
Advise technical leadership on project scope, delivery trade-offs, and technical strategy.

Requirements

10+ years of professional software development experience, including technical strategy, system design, and architecture evolution.
Deep hands-on C/C++ experience, including debugging compilation and linking issues across large codebases.
Experience building or maintaining production software across Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools, including reviewing and validating generated code before release.
Experience with Git or another version control system.

Nice to have

Experience with GCC, LLVM, compilers, linkers, dynamic linking, or standard libraries such as libc++/libstdc++ and glibc.
Experience with Linux distributions, Homebrew, RedHat devtoolset, or package systems at scale.
Proficiency with CMake, Bazel, Make, or Automake and familiarity with Python packaging and manylinux.
Experience with GPU build tooling such as CUDA and cuDNN.
Involvement in conda-forge or the wider Python packaging community, including open-source projects.
