Staff Embedded Software Engineer (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Pittsburgh, PA or remote within the United States. The position may be subject to verification of residence, U.S. person status, and/or citizenship status, as well as U.S. export-control restrictions.

What you will do

• Design scalable, modular, and real-time embedded software architectures for an autonomous vehicle platform.
• Develop and validate firmware interfacing with sensors, actuators, compute modules, and the base vehicle.
• Provide technical leadership through mentoring, code reviews, and coordination of team tasks.
• Apply safety guidelines and implement robust fault handling for safety-critical software.
• Support vehicle testing and field deployments by diagnosing and resolving embedded software issues.

Requirements

• Expertise in C++ for embedded, safety-critical systems.
• Strong understanding of RTOS concepts and programming, including FreeRTOS or SafeRTOS.
• Experience with safety-critical standards such as ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or similar.
• Experience developing hardware abstraction layers and board support packages.
• Experience with multithreaded and real-time software design, CAN, and Ethernet communication protocols.
• Experience taking at least one product through production and maintaining it for paying customers.
