Firmware Engineer II

Location: Shakopee, Minnesota, United States (GHQ)

Salary: $85,413–$125,272 per year, plus eligibility for a discretionary annual incentive plan.

What you will do

• Design real-time embedded software for control systems in complex machines.
• Develop requirements, architecture, code, tests, documentation, and embedded software components.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, hardware/software integration, and development testing.
• Control and integrate motors, sensors, vision systems, and personalization technologies such as smart card programming, laser engraving, and printing.
• Analyze and resolve product issues through code modifications, testing, and coordination with product support.
• Communicate schedules and technical status while contributing to engineering policies, standards, and process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent technical discipline.
• At least 3 years of experience with embedded software, hardware, or firmware in a product development environment.
• At least 2 years of experience with C++ and/or C in embedded development.
• Experience with VxWorks, Zephyr, embedded Linux, or another embedded real-time operating system.
• Experience with revision control systems such as Git or Subversion, development processes, and unit and integration testing.
• Unrestricted work authorization in the United States is required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
• Experience with electromechanical design, motor control, smart card technology, color printing, RFID, laser control, networking protocols, or scripting languages.
• Knowledge of encryption, PKI, vulnerability mitigation, and other security concepts.
• Experience with AI workflows and AI-assisted development tools.
• Strong engineering judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills, autonomy, communication, and technical documentation abilities.
