Security Firmware Engineer (SSD)

Location: Hybrid role local to Rancho Cordova, California, United States. Other potential worksites include Longmont, Colorado and San Jose, California.

Salary: USD 148,320–237,400 yearly, plus eligibility for bonus, restricted stock unit, and restricted cash unit programs.

What you will do

• Develop, review, document, and maintain product firmware source code in C, C++, and Rust.
• Design low-level firmware, operating-system components, device architectures, and embedded system architectures in partnership with hardware and ASIC teams.
• Analyze customer and internal specifications and translate product requirements into development and validation plans.
• Perform unit and system-level testing, failure analysis, and debugging throughout development and validation.
• Work with NVMe, PCIe, SATA, and SAS storage interfaces across the SSD architecture.
• Coordinate engineering priorities and contribute to Agile/Kanban planning, quality, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 8+ years of embedded software or firmware development experience using C, C++, or Rust.
• Experience developing embedded firmware for real-time operating systems and working with hardware-software interactions.
• Experience with firmware development environments, including compilers, debuggers, emulators, and toolchains.
• Strong written, presentation, communication, multitasking, influence, and leadership skills.
• Experience leading teams or feature development through planning, technical execution, and the product lifecycle.

Nice to have

• Experience in SSDs, enterprise storage, or storage security protocols such as Opal, ESSC, and AES.
• Experience with SHA2/3, HMAC, KDF, ECC, RSA, or ML-DSA cryptographic algorithms.
• Knowledge of SATA, SAS, PCIe, or NVMe protocols and embedded hardware and firmware tools.
• Experience with continuous integration and delivery, DevOps, project planning, estimation, risk management, and unit-test coverage.
