Backend Software Engineer II (Java/AI)

Location: Hybrid, with 3 days onsite in hirify.global offices in Chicago, Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Atlanta, Georgia; or Jacksonville, Florida. Current and future visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $79,230–$134,700 per year.

What you will do

• Develop and deliver scalable, high-quality software solutions across backend systems and user interfaces.
• Build and integrate Java, JavaScript, and TypeScript applications using RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
• Use AI-native development tools such as Claude Code, Kiro, and frontier LLMs for code generation, architecture, testing, and problem-solving.
• Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, QA engineers, and other cross-functional partners in an agile environment.
• Analyze complex technical issues, improve system performance and reliability, and maintain security and code-quality standards.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to technical roadmaps and engineering standards.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience, preferably in SaaS or fintech.
• Strong proficiency in Java, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Experience with modern UI development, RESTful API integrations, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience using AI-powered development tools in a modern engineering workflow.
• Ability to solve complex technical problems and deliver robust, scalable software.
• Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree preferred; strong collaboration and communication skills required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Jira, Confluence, and similar project management tools.
• Experience with React, Spring Boot, Micronaut, Temporal, ActiveMQ, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes, AWS, Jenkins, and Git.
