TL;DR
User Experience and Interface Design Intern (Defense Technology) (UX/UI and design systems): Developing interface designs, prototypes, design-system components, and visual assets for mission-critical defense software with an accent on human-centered design, Figma specifications, and stakeholder collaboration. Focus on iterating interactive solutions, documenting reusable patterns, advocating for user needs, and aligning designs with agile development and mission objectives.
Location: Hybrid, based in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, with at least 2–3 days in the office. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
Salary: $28–$34 per hour

What you will do
- Contribute to design-system components, design patterns, and reusable use-case documentation.
- Update and annotate Figma designs based on stakeholder feedback and discovery.
- Develop and revise prototypes, interface screens, illustrations, pictograms, and iconography.
- Collaborate on user-centered solutions, gather supporting data, and engage relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in design and delivery reviews aligned with mission objectives.
- Apply iterative design practices within an agile development cycle and advocate for user needs.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or postgraduate program in HCI, interaction design, fine, visual or media arts, graphic design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience with relevant coursework or certification.
- Experience with digital design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with Figma, Sketch, Miro, or Mural is useful.
- Coursework, experience, or knowledge of human-centered design thinking, heuristics, and design patterns.
- Experience with or understanding of HTML and CSS or interactive digital products.
- Portfolio of design or development work, preferably including interactive products.
Nice to have
- Experience with Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies, especially Lean.
- Familiarity with interaction design, affinity or empathy mapping, workflow diagrams, and UX/UI industry publications.
