Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Digital Products) (Automotive)

Location: Fremont, California, United States; three days per week in the office are required. Regular in-person meetings, events, and occasional business travel are expected.

Annual base salary: $181,500–$220,000 for California. The position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Lead the development of digital products covering order management, customer management, marketing, production, inventory, loyalty, servicing, mobile applications, and vehicle connectivity.
• Design, code, deploy, and operate scalable backend architectures, APIs, microservices, integrations, and reliable software systems.
• Partner with engineering, product, design, and external service providers to define roadmaps, technical requirements, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Identify and lead complex, multi-team technical projects while evolving early-stage products and improving the reliability of existing systems.
• Establish engineering standards, tooling, metrics, CI/CD practices, and operational excellence.
• Recruit, manage, mentor, and develop high-performing software engineering teams.

Requirements

• Availability to work from the Fremont, California office three days per week and attend in-person meetings and events.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering and scaling software products, with technical leadership in backend, ecommerce, payments, or digital products.
• Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, complex backend systems, system vulnerabilities, and security prevention.
• Strong coding skills across Go, Java, Kotlin, and Swift, including CI/CD pipelines for web and mobile releases.
• 5+ years of experience leading software engineering teams and experience directing large, multi-team projects.

• Experience building data pipelines and web or mobile analytics.
• Experience developing systems for the automotive industry.
• Full-stack development experience.
