Embedded Software Engineer C++ (m/w/d) Hardware and Embedded Linux

What you will do

• Develop modern C++ software for controlling and integrating in-house hardware on embedded Linux systems.
• Implement hardware abstraction layers, device-specific components, firmware, and interfaces for microcontrollers and peripherals.
• Bring up, debug, and verify boards and systems using JTAG, debuggers, logging, and laboratory measurement equipment.
• Define interfaces between software, firmware, FPGA, and hardware, including register maps, communication interfaces, and data formats.
• Build diagnostic tools, automated unit and integration tests, simulations, static analysis, and other shift-left verification workflows.
• Analyze and optimize the performance, stability, and resource usage of hardware-related software.

Requirements

• Degree in communications engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, or a comparable discipline.
• Several years of embedded software development experience and strong modern C++ skills.
• Hands-on experience with Embedded Linux and hardware-related software, including hardware abstraction, device drivers, or board-level integration.
• Knowledge of microcontrollers and interfaces such as SPI, I²C, UART, GPIO, ADC/DAC, or Ethernet.
• Experience with hardware bring-up, debugging, laboratory measurement equipment, Git, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD.
• Effective communication in German and English is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with CMake, Yocto, BSP development, U-Boot, or Linux kernel configuration.
• Bare-metal or RTOS firmware development experience.
• Python or MATLAB experience for prototyping, test automation, or data analysis.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and modern shift-left testing approaches.
