Java Senior Software Engineers (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Berlin, with commuting to the Berlin office three times a week

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain reliable production software for travel search and trip-planning experiences.
• Build and evolve APIs and services for AI-assisted search, conversational travel planning, itineraries, ASK AI, smart filters, and AI-generated hotel review summaries.
• Investigate technical problems, assess trade-offs, and improve reliability, performance, maintainability, and production observability.
• Write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests and contribute to code reviews and technical discussions.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver useful and accessible user experiences.
• Share knowledge and contribute to development tools, engineering processes, and delivery practices.

Requirements

• Experience building and maintaining production software.
• Proficiency in Java or another relevant programming language.
• Familiarity with APIs, data structures, and software-design principles.
• Experience testing software and investigating defects or production issues.
• Ability to explain technical decisions clearly and take ownership of work.
• Experience contributing to projects from design through implementation, release, and maintenance; equivalent practical experience is accepted instead of a specific degree.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed systems, search, personalization, or high-volume consumer products.
• Experience with AI, machine learning, or large language model applications.
• Experience with relational databases, web or mobile products, accessibility, reliability, or usability.
• Experience with Java and Spring, cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
