Country Liaison Officer (Vanuatu)

Location: Cairns, Queensland, Australia; applicants must already live in or be willing to live in Cairns. The role requires frequent travel within Australia, including interstate travel and work outside regular hours when required.

What you will do

• Provide culturally appropriate welfare and pastoral support to Vanuatu workers participating in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme.
• Build relationships with workers, Approved Employers, government agencies, community services, and consular representatives.
• Support the resolution and referral of workplace disputes, critical incidents, health concerns, domestic violence matters, and other sensitive issues.
• Conduct workplace and accommodation visits, alongside in-person and virtual check-ins, to identify welfare concerns.
• Maintain confidential records, monitor welfare trends, and prepare regular updates and quarterly reports.
• Promote cultural understanding, gender equality, diversity, worker safety, and respectful relationships.

Requirements

• Must be living in or willing to live in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Bislama are required.
• Experience supporting multicultural or Indigenous communities and providing culturally appropriate assistance.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and follow formal referral and escalation processes.
• Valid driver licence and ability to travel frequently within Australia, including interstate and outside regular hours when required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet browsers, and data-entry or case-management systems.

Nice to have

• French language skills.
• Understanding of Vanuatu culture and experience supporting Pacific communities in Australia.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications.
