Education Specialist

Location: Iowa City, IA, USA; work takes place in an office and in community, home, or field settings throughout the service delivery area. Regular travel, occasional evening or weekend work, and transportation of clients may be required.

Compensation: $21.00–$22.80

What you will do

• Coordinate adult education classes, including schedules, enrollment, registration, and assessments.
• Teach educational classes and learning activities for multilingual refugee and immigrant clients using approved curricula and interpreters.
• Pair youth participants with volunteers and interns for tutoring and mentoring, providing direct support when needed.
• Incorporate computer-based learning and support tutors and mentors.
• Collaborate with caseworkers to distribute culturally appropriate resources and connect clients with internal and external services.
• Track attendance, referrals, progress, and other program data using Microsoft products, digital platforms, and electronic filing systems.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; education-related coursework or training is preferred.
• At least one year of relevant experience working with refugees, immigrants, or other diverse populations.
• Fluent written and spoken English required.
• TESOL certification or adult education classroom experience is preferred.
• Computer proficiency, especially with Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook; database and web-based data entry experience is preferred.
• Valid driver's license, reliable insured vehicle, strong communication skills, and ability to work effectively in a multicultural team.

Nice to have

• Bilingual ability in Swahili, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Spanish, French, or another client language.
• TESOL certification or experience teaching adult education.
