Staff Backend Software Engineer (Node.js)

Location: Melbourne, Australia; hybrid work with the option to work from home up to 2 days per week.

What you will do

• Architect and design scalable, high-performance backend software solutions.
• Optimize existing systems for performance, scalability, and reliability by identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
• Write and maintain production-quality code with a focus on scalability and maintainability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts and project updates.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers.

Requirements

• Experience in software engineering, scalable system design, and backend server development.
• Strong proficiency in a modern backend language such as Go, TypeScript, or Python; Java or C# experience is advantageous.
• Experience with Node.js, Docker, cloud services, and Kubernetes or equivalent orchestration platforms such as OpenShift, Nomad, or Docker Swarm.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools including Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
• Experience building and maintaining secure, scalable CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, technical leadership, and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, or similar CI/CD tools.
• Experience with Java or C# backend development.
