Staff Software Engineer (AdTech)

Location: Hybrid role based in Melbourne or Sydney, Australia

What you will do

• Shape the architecture and technical strategy of the AdTech ecosystem supporting targeted advertising across web and app.
• Lead technical discovery with engineering, product, sales, ad operations, and AdTech stakeholders.
• Design, implement, test, and document backend solutions including REST and GraphQL APIs, data pipelines, and event-driven systems.
• Lead research, prototypes, and proof-of-concept work to assess feasibility and guide technical decisions.
• Drive strategically important initiatives across ad serving, programmatic infrastructure, identity, and audience platforms.
• Coach and mentor engineers, support the Engineering Manager, and contribute to architecture standards and the wider engineering community.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with complex, high-scale systems.
• Expertise in API development, distributed event-driven architectures, and AWS and/or GCP cloud infrastructure.
• Advanced backend skills with genuine full-stack capability, including microservices, test-driven development, and continuous delivery.
• Experience designing high-performance systems and long-term architecture strategies using relational and NoSQL databases, BigQuery, message queues, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience owning services through production, improving reliability and performance, and resolving high-impact operational incidents.
• Strong communication, technical leadership, mentoring, testing, observability, and monitoring skills.
