Staff Engineer, Tool Design (Aerospace)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; on-site

Salary: $150,000–$230,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular employees.

What you will do

• Own production tooling through concept, design, analysis, release, fabrication, and prove-out.
• Translate GD&T, key characteristics, and critical-to-quality requirements into tooling specifications.
• Design assembly jigs, drill and bond fixtures, composite molds and trim fixtures, gauges, carts, and protective tooling.
• Perform FEA and hand calculations covering stiffness, clamp loads, safety factors, and ergonomics.
• Create tool design packages with 3D models, drawings, BOMs, specifications, materials, lifting points, and safety labeling.
• Lead design reviews, manage fabrication and NCR/ECR resolution, and support shop-floor prove-out and first-article activities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in tooling design, mechanical design, or manufacturing engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.
• Experience with prototype manufacturing in a startup or rapid-growth environment.
• Strong understanding of machining, composites, avionics, and/or assembly processes.
• Proficiency with CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks; experience with 3DEXPERIENCE, Teamcenter, FEA tools, GD&T, and metrology fundamentals.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality standards.
• Familiarity with additive manufacturing or automation systems.
• Project management experience with multiple priorities and deadlines.
