TL;DR
Senior Electric Propulsion Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and integrating electric propulsion systems for scalable satellite buses with an accent on propulsion architecture, high-pressure fluidic systems, testing, and manufacturing. Focus on developing qualification and acceptance tests, analyzing propulsion performance and safety requirements, and troubleshooting manufacturing anomalies.

Location: Los Angeles, with in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office

Salary: $165K–$220K base salary, plus potential commission and additional benefits.

What you will do

  • Design electric propulsion system architectures, product specifications, and technical performance metrics, including power and mass budgets.
  • Define propulsion system placement and integration across spacecraft subsystems such as electrical, thermal, and structural systems.
  • Design high-pressure fluidic systems, instrumentation, and control components, including tanks, regulators, sensors, thermocouples, and solenoid valves.
  • Develop qualification and acceptance test plans and support vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum testing.
  • Create manufacturing work instructions, process flow diagrams, and assembly, integration, and test procedures while applying design-for-manufacturability principles.
  • Lead anomaly investigations, supplier and customer interfaces, requirements verification, safety analyses, trade studies, and vendor coordination.

Requirements

  • U.S. Person status is required to access export-controlled data.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electric propulsion, aerospace, or another related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of electric propulsion design and test experience.
  • Experience handling and testing pressurized systems and designing fluidic systems, instrumentation, and control components.
  • Strong knowledge of propulsion, spacecraft systems, and range safety requirements, including SSCMAN 91-710.
  • Experience with CAD software such as NX or SolidWorks and manufacturing in a clean environment under AS9100 protocols.

Nice to have

  • Master's or Ph.D. in mechanical, electric propulsion, aerospace, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience operating leak, burst, and proof test facilities.
  • Experience leading electric propulsion hot-fire test campaigns involving high-voltage power, fluid delivery, data acquisition, thrust stands, and plasma diagnostics.
  • Experience with electric propulsion operations in space.
