Patent Counsel/Senior Patent Counsel (Biotech)

Location: Hybrid, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Somerset, New Jersey, United States, with three office days per week and travel between Bridgewater, Philadelphia, and Somerset locations.

Salary: $168,372–$220,988 USD base pay annually, plus performance-based bonus and/or equity for eligible roles.

What you will do

• Develop and manage global intellectual property portfolios for biopharmaceutical technologies.
• Draft and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications and manage post-grant proceedings, oppositions, and appeals.
• Conduct freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity, due diligence, and risk assessment analyses.
• Support business development, licensing, collaborations, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.
• Draft and negotiate intellectual property provisions in commercial, research, manufacturing, licensing, and collaboration agreements.
• Advise scientists, business leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders on patent law, IP strategy, and risk mitigation.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in biological sciences; advanced degree preferred.
• U.S. law degree and admission to practice before the USPTO are required.
• Current good-standing admission to at least one U.S. state bar is required.
• At least 8 years of patent attorney experience in life sciences patent prosecution, primarily in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology corporate or law firm setting.
• Experience with global biopharmaceutical IP portfolios, complex freedom-to-operate analyses, risk mitigation, and patent strategy.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; employment eligibility is verified through Form I-9 and E-Verify.

Nice to have

• Experience in antibody and process development.
• Experience in gene therapy, cell therapy, or RNA therapeutics.
• Advanced degree in a relevant biological science.
• Experience with adverse IP proceedings or U.S. litigation.
