Staff R&D Engineer (Molecular Diagnostics)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; this is an on-site role with an eligible remote work arrangement also available. Support work includes short car trips to local manufacturing sites.

Salary: $165,000–$185,000 annually, plus bonus or incentive pay.

What you will do

• Develop firmware for an STM32-based embedded daughter board used to precisely control temperature during diagnostic assay runs.
• Develop Cortex-A53 firmware supporting the embedded daughter board.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in molecular diagnostic studies.
• Help cross-functional teams diagnose complex problems, especially edge-case accuracy issues.
• Innovate on new hardware systems that extend and improve molecular diagnostics platforms.
• Implement real-time logic across bare-metal and ISR domains.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of related experience, master’s degree with 6+ years, or doctoral degree with 3+ years.
• At least 3 years of professional experience with embedded C/C++, RTOS, bare-metal programming, ISRs, and real-time programming.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for local manufacturing-site support trips.
• Ability to work in or around Sunnyvale, California, with the role designated as on-site; an eligible remote arrangement may also be available.

Nice to have

• Experience in molecular diagnostics or biotechnology.
• Experience developing and maintaining industrial process control logic.
• Experience using logic analyzers.
