Optical Associate, Certified (ABO) – Sam’s Club

Location: Glen Carbon, Illinois, United States; onsite at Sam's Club

Salary: $23.50–$31.50 per hour, plus possible premiums of $0.35–$3.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Maintain optical merchandise presentation, inventory, displays, equipment, paperwork, and sales-floor standards.
• Assist members with eyewear and contact lens purchases, prescription verification, measurements, frame adjustments, repairs, and order processing.
• Perform final eyewear inspections, including compound prism verification, and troubleshoot non-adapt issues.
• Support contact lens hygiene guidance, insertions and removals, appointments, pre-testing, doctor or telehealth payments, and OD services where applicable.
• Communicate with laboratories and optometrists about job status, product updates, expired lenses, and repairs.
• Process payments, returns, refunds, insurance claims, chargebacks, and member visits while maintaining HIPAA-compliant records.

Requirements

• Active American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification and continuing education to maintain certification.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Must meet applicable state requirements and obtain optician licensure within the required timeframe, generally within 18 months of hire for full-time associates.
• Ability to complete applicable apprenticeship, state board, certification, NPI registration, and training requirements.
• Ability to work with optical equipment, prescription eyewear, contact lenses, member records, and payment systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with insurance processing and electronic health records.
• Experience in healthcare, optical services, or retail operations.
