Macraes Summer Internship — Project Engineer (Mining)

Location: On-site at Macraes Mine, Otago, New Zealand. Candidates should ideally stay in Dunedin, Oamaru, or surrounding areas and commute by bus to site.

What you will do

• Investigate chemical tailings dust suppression options, make recommendations, and establish trial areas.
• Fact-check topsoil inventory and disturbed-area calculations.
• Investigate unlogged topsoil stockpiles, calculate volumes, and prepare a site location plan.
• Work on diverse projects with the Project Engineering team and participate in group activities with other interns.
• Present internship experiences and key learnings to the Site Management Team.

Requirements

• Unrestricted New Zealand working rights are required.
• Availability from mid-November 2026 through mid-February 2027 is required.
• Currently in the second-last or final year of Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related program.
• Full Class 1 driver's licence; ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
• Curious, inquisitive, and passionate about problem solving, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

• Familiarity with data analysis tools and visualisation platforms.
• Accommodation in Dunedin, Oamaru, or surrounding areas.
