Launch Technician I - Mechanical (Aerospace): Building, testing, operating, and maintaining critical launch pad systems at Rocket Lab’s Mahia site with an accent on mechanical assembly, fabrication, fluid systems, and precision integration. Focus on troubleshooting launch pad systems, installing heavy structures and mechanisms, and delivering reliable vehicle integrations under strict deadlines.

Location: Mahia, Gisborne, New Zealand; onsite role with the ability to relocate to or work out of Mahia required.

What you will do

  • Fit out, assemble, and install launch pad systems, including heavy structures, mechanisms, fluid lines, electrical and control hardware, and RF equipment.
  • Perform precision cleaning of critical components.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues across launch pad systems.
  • Support smooth launch pad and vehicle integration.
  • Work closely with technicians and engineers to build, test, operate, and maintain critical launch systems.

Requirements

  • Previous experience assembling large structures and mechanisms.
  • Experience with machining and fabrication.
  • Experience with pneumatic, cryogenic, or hydraulic fluid systems.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed schematics, drawings, and instructions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines, with strong communication skills.
  • Working rights in New Zealand and eligibility to access equipment and data regulated by U.S. ITAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as overhead cranes and forklifts.
  • Comfort working at heights and in confined spaces.
