Facilities Maintenance Manufacturing Engineering Intern (Aerospace): Developing standardised maintenance work instructions and preventative maintenance processes for rocket production equipment in an Auckland production environment with an accent on technical documentation, CMMS implementation, and aerospace quality standards. Focus on validating procedures with maintenance technicians, building scalable training materials, and supporting maintenance KPI reporting aligned with AS9100.
Location: Auckland, New Zealand; onsite in the Auckland Production Complex
Company
is an end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and critical aerospace subsystems.
What you will do
- Establish standard formats and create detailed work instructions for Planned Preventative Maintenance activities, including Single Point of Failure equipment and critical manufacturing systems.
- Validate instructions through hands-on maintenance activities with trained technicians in real production environments and refine them using feedback.
- Release work instructions into the CMMS and collaborate with the Enterprise Information Systems team on system integration.
- Develop training materials, templates, and process maps that can be adopted across multiple facilities.
- Support Power BI reporting for maintenance KPIs within the AS9100 quality structure and prepare process documentation and handover materials.
Requirements

- Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with the ability to create clear instructions for technicians with different experience levels.
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to create process maps and flowcharts, manage time independently, and deliver tasks by assigned deadlines.
- Comfort working in a production or manufacturing environment and following health and safety procedures.
- Ability to collaborate with maintenance technicians, engineers, and IT staff while proactively seeking clarification and feedback.
Nice to have
- Experience with mechanical equipment, maintenance, manufacturing, or operations.
- Understanding of CMMS, ERP, or maintenance management software such as Infor, SAP, or Maximo.
- Familiarity with Planned Preventative Maintenance, reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, or continuous improvement methods such as Lean, TPM, or RCM.
- Experience with Power BI or other data visualisation tools and knowledge of AS9100 or other aerospace quality standards.
- Hands-on workshop or manufacturing experience and an interest in aerospace or space technology.
Culture & Benefits
- Hands-on experience developing permanent maintenance infrastructure for aerospace manufacturing.
- Opportunity to create systems and processes used across multiple facilities.
- Mentorship from maintenance professionals and manufacturing engineers.
- Exposure to aerospace manufacturing equipment and real production operations.
- Cross-functional collaboration with maintenance, engineering, and IT teams.
- Potential pathway to future roles in reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, or operations management.
Hiring process
- Submit a cover letter explaining interest in the specific role and citing a relevant project, experience, or hobby.
- Applications and interviews are reviewed on a rolling basis.
- For New Zealand roles, background and nationality checks are completed before an employment offer because access to ITAR-regulated equipment and data is required.
