Assistant Engineer (Building Maintenance)

Location: Washington, DC; on-site only. Remote and hybrid options are not available.

Pay: $25.00–$28.00 per hour

What you will do

• Troubleshoot and repair building systems, including plumbing, HVAC, kitchen equipment, roofs, and drains.
• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on buildings, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds.
• Inspect fire alarms, HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and other systems to ensure proper operation.
• Respond to emergency situations and coordinate additional assistance when needed.
• Maintain energy management programs and operate building systems efficiently.
• Complete work orders, grounds maintenance, painting, caulking, drywall, electrical work, and other assigned maintenance tasks.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, trade school training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least two years of building maintenance experience.
• Thorough knowledge of building systems operations, maintenance, and repair, including HVAC, electrical, and building automation systems.
• Knowledge of energy management systems, techniques, and operations.
• Basic skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to perform physical work including climbing ladders and stairs, standing, stooping, and lifting at least 50 pounds; shift work, overtime, and on-call duties may be required.

Nice to have

• Universal CFC certification or progress toward certification.
• Local or state mechanical or HVAC trade license.
• Valid driver license.
