TL;DR
Manufacturing Equipment Engineer 1 (Life Sciences): Supporting and improving manufacturing equipment and instrumentation in a regulated genomics production environment with an accent on reliability, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and equipment qualification. Focus on reducing recurring failures, sustaining production readiness, coordinating repairs and supplier support, and improving equipment performance across optical, mechanical, electrical, fluidic, and control systems.

Location: San Diego, California, United States; onsite at the San Diego headquarters

Salary: $68,400–$102,600 base annually, plus eligible bonus, commission, and equity programs.

What you will do

  • Support manufacturing equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, repairs, calibrations, and troubleshooting.
  • Plan and execute concurrent maintenance, supplier-support, calibration, and equipment projects using digital ticketing systems.
  • Assist with structured investigations into recurring equipment failures using equipment data, maintenance history, and ticket trends.
  • Support equipment installation, qualification, startup, and modification activities under engineering guidance.
  • Collaborate with engineers, operations, vendors, and cross-functional partners to sustain safe, compliant, reliable production.
  • Monitor equipment performance, manage spare parts, and support computer hardware and software troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • 0–2 years of professional experience and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing, data collection, hands-on technical work, and spare-parts management.
  • Familiarity with optical, mechanical, electrical, and fluidic systems; ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Knowledge of equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, calibration, repair, structured problem-solving, and control interfaces such as PLC/IO, RS232, and sensors.
  • Knowledge of GMP and GDP, strong mathematical, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Good written and verbal English; willingness to work flexible schedules or rotational shifts, including weekends, and travel up to 10%.
