Senior Principal Automation Engineer (Cloud HPC)

Location: San Jose, California, United States

Salary: $205,000–$260,000 per year, depending on experience, level, and business need. Discretionary bonus, incentives, and benefits may be available.

What you will do

• Architect and optimize cloud-native CI/CD pipelines, automation libraries, compute clusters, virtual runners, and secure infrastructure for ASIC and SoC development.
• Optimize front-end and back-end semiconductor workflows, including RTL, simulation, verification, physical design, place-and-route, and timing closure.
• Own cloud HPC strategy, including auto-scaling, job scheduling, license-aware scheduling, throughput optimization, and cost-per-run reduction.
• Build a centralized data lake for HPC, CI/CD, license, and design-tool telemetry, with dashboards for engineers, managers, and executives.
• Develop AI-assisted telemetry for regression triage, failure analysis, root-cause debugging, forecasting, and automation tooling.
• Support automation across employee lifecycle, Legal, and Finance workflows through APIs, event-driven triggers, controls, audit trails, and enterprise integrations.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 20+ years of progressive technical experience, including 10+ years in CAD infrastructure, cloud HPC, or build and release automation.
• Deep experience running HPC and EDA workloads natively in the cloud, preferably AWS, with demonstrated cost optimization expertise.
• Knowledge of front-end and back-end semiconductor design flows and experience with data lakes, telemetry, and role-specific dashboards.
• Expertise with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Python, Shell/Bash, Tcl, Linux/Unix administration, and AI coding platforms including Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot.
• Experience automating HR, Legal, Finance, or IT service-management processes while meeting SOX, access-review, audit, privacy, and data-retention requirements.
