TL;DR
Vehicle Reliability Engineer (Autonomous Vehicles) (AI/Automotive): Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software failures during autonomous vehicle testing and road operations with an accent on vehicle reliability, functional safety, and root cause analysis. Focus on implementing safe workarounds, analyzing CAN and diagnostic data, improving troubleshooting protocols, and maintaining vehicle uptime during night-shift operations.

Location: Dallas, TX; Pittsburgh, PA; San Francisco, CA; or Remote US. Hybrid workplace with current night-shift hours from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, subject to change. Travel required 10%.

What you will do

  • Diagnose hardware and software failures during vehicle testing and on-road operations.
  • Apply documented temporary fixes and workarounds while maintaining safety and performance standards.
  • Log vehicle issues and prepare reports with reproduction steps, diagnostic data, and recommended actions.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and operations teams on root cause analysis and long-term system improvements.
  • Conduct pre-test and post-test evaluations and serve as the technical point of contact during vehicle testing.
  • Improve troubleshooting protocols, automate diagnostic routines, and enhance data capture and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting complex vehicle systems in automotive, robotics, aerospace, or a related industry.
  • Proficiency with Linux-based systems, command-line diagnostics, computer networking, CAN bus diagnostics, and automotive diagnostic tools.
  • Strong data analysis, technical documentation, written communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience with continuous improvement and root cause analysis methods such as 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, Fault Tree Analysis, or FMEA.
  • Experience with functional safety, reliability, or quality standards such as ISO 26262 or UL 4600 is beneficial.
