Senior Software Engineer, Backend | Audit Product Team (AI)

Location: Remote — must be based in the United States

Salary: $200,000–$230,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Set technical direction for backend development and design scalable, reliable web application systems.
• Build production-grade services using Java, Scala, and/or Rust while setting standards, mentoring engineers, and improving programming maturity.
• Architect and implement customer-facing applications that apply ML to large volumes of healthcare data.
• Design distributed systems for high throughput, high availability, security, and reliable operation in the cloud.
• Partner with product, ML/DS, engineering, leadership, and customers to influence product direction and deliver complex features.
• Introduce agentic engineering practices, direct AI coding agents, and review their output for quality.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend programming experience; additional full-stack experience is highly valued.
• Meaningful experience with Java or Scala; Rust experience is highly desired.
• Experience designing, building, and operating distributed cloud systems at scale.
• Experience shipping customer-facing web application products and writing clear technical design documents.
• Hands-on experience with agentic engineering tools and workflows in production.
• Strong product thinking, systems design, problem-solving, code-quality, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Technical leadership in Rust best practices, including idioms, safety, and performance.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
