Staff Software Engineer (React/AI)

Location: Hybrid in Chicago, with in-person office attendance required on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Salary: $126,000–$168,000 annual base pay, plus equity, benefits, and a company bonus program

What you will do

• Own the React-based tools used by human moderators and their backend systems from design through delivery.
• Build and ship full-stack features while coordinating with Product, Design, Marketing, and Backend Platform.
• Design for security, privacy, accessibility, reliability, and scale across systems trusted by millions of users.
• Maintain third-party integrations and develop new integrations as the organization becomes more AI-focused.
• Drive code review, testing, and reliability practices while mentoring engineers through hands-on technical leadership.
• Apply AI tools to daily engineering work and help establish shared AI workflows for the team.

Requirements

• Deep production experience across frontend and backend systems, including end-to-end ownership of features or services.
• Strong React experience with modern web performance, state management, and accessibility.
• Strong backend experience in at least one of Java, Kotlin, Node.js, Python, or Go.
• Hands-on experience operating cloud-native systems on AWS or GCP.
• Production experience with Kafka and SQL, together with solid database fundamentals.
• Advanced AI prompting skills, critical evaluation of AI outputs, and the ability to document and share AI workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience building and operating consumer-facing web products at scale.
• Experience working on distributed teams across time zones and borders.
• Experience driving code review culture and mentoring less experienced engineers.
