Microservices Architect

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $150,000–$185,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead the design and evolution of large-scale microservices ecosystems on container platforms and cloud-native technology stacks.
• Define service decomposition, domain-driven design, distributed data management, and asynchronous communication patterns.
• Design for resilience, observability, security, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
• Lead architecture initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams and complex technology transformations.
• Operate and improve high-traffic, latency-sensitive production systems.
• Partner with stakeholders to establish when and how microservices should be adopted and evolved.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including several years in architecture roles; the position lists 13+ years of required experience.
• Deep expertise in microservices design, domain-driven design, and distributed systems patterns.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, service mesh technologies, API design, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous messaging.
• Proficiency in Java, Go, or C# and strong knowledge of at least one major cloud provider and its managed services.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and multi-team architecture leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Platform engineering and internal developer platform construction experience.
• Familiarity with Istio, Linkerd, Envoy, or comparable service mesh technologies.
• FinOps and cloud cost optimization experience.
• Public speaking, open-source contributions, or published technical writing.
• Experience in regulated industries with strict compliance requirements.
