AVP, Contingent Liability Legal – P&C (Insurance)

Location: Ohio – Columbus, One hirify.global Plaza; normal office environment. Some travel may be required.

Salary: $175,000–$326,000 national range; expected starting range of $175,000–$291,000.

What you will do

• Provide executive oversight of the P&C contingent-liability portfolio, including bad-faith, extra-contractual, coverage, and other high-risk litigation.
• Establish litigation priorities, governance standards, escalation protocols, risk-mitigation strategies, and resource plans.
• Advise senior leadership and business partners on legal, regulatory, financial, operational, and reputational exposure.
• Oversee reserves, settlement authority, litigation budgets, legal spend, and financial reporting for contingent-liability matters.
• Manage outside-counsel selection, litigation plans, budgets, discovery strategy, early case assessment, settlements, and billing review.
• Lead, coach, and develop attorneys while coordinating with Claims, Legal, Finance, Underwriting, Reinsurance, Compliance, and business leadership.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association-accredited law school.
• Fully licensed and in good standing in the state or states of practice, with continuing legal education compliance.
• 10–15 years of relevant legal and property and casualty insurance experience.
• Experience advising senior executives on corporate matters and sophisticated litigation or risk issues.
• Strong business and financial acuity, communication skills, judgment, collaboration, and organizational leadership.
