Principal Engineer, System FMEA (Automotive)

Location: Bucharest, Romania; hybrid work with onsite collaboration three days per week

Salary: lei 337,500–495,000 annual gross base salary

What you will do

• Define and document system elements, functions, requirements, interfaces, and boundary conditions for System FMEA.
• Set the technical scope and focus areas for FMEA analysis based on architecture changes, product maturity, and risk hotspots.
• Lead technical FMEA content development with system architecture, hardware, software, safety, quality, and manufacturing stakeholders.
• Identify failure modes, effects, and causes, linking risks to clear technical rationale and mitigation actions.
• Maintain consistency and traceability between System/Design FMEA and Process FMEA.
• Review FMEA content, support steering and release reviews, and drive closure of technical action plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong experience in system-level product development for automotive or other complex embedded systems.
• Experience in technical risk management, requirements engineering, and cross-disciplinary interface management.
• Hands-on knowledge of AIAG and VDA FMEA methodology, including DFMEA and PFMEA interaction.
• Experience facilitating technical reviews and aligning stakeholders on risk quality and action ownership.
• Experience with FMEA tools such as Siemens Teamcenter or APIS IQ, plus structured documentation practices.

Nice to have

• Experience as an FMEA Technical Lead or FMEA Facilitator in series automotive programs.
• Familiarity with ASPICE and IATF 16949 automotive development processes.
• Experience creating and reusing foundation or family FMEA libraries across product lines.
• Understanding of manufacturing handover and transition from development to industrialization and launch teams.
