TL;DR
Metallurgical Technician, Contractor (Additive Manufacturing): Preparing and analyzing metallic samples and powders for additive manufacturing and aerospace parts with an accent on metallographic preparation, microscopy, and hardness testing. Focus on operating optical and scanning electron microscopes, documenting laboratory results, maintaining equipment, and supporting safe, reliable materials and process operations.

Location: Onsite at the Loveland, Ohio facility; U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a U.S. government security clearance are required.

What you will do

  • Prepare metallic samples for microscopic examination using sectioning, mounting, polishing, etching, and imaging techniques.
  • Operate optical and scanning electron microscopes to analyze metallic samples.
  • Perform metallic powder testing, including particle-size analysis and chemistry testing.
  • Conduct hardness and microhardness testing, document results, and prepare reports.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, consumables, housekeeping, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support the Materials & Process Department, manufacturing activities, quality objectives, and laboratory safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two-year degree from an accredited college or technical school in a science- or engineering-related field, or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, organize priorities, solve problems, communicate effectively, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance.

Nice to have

  • At least five years of experience with metallographic laboratory equipment and sample preparation.
  • Experience with optical and scanning electron microscopes, aerospace materials and processes, data acquisition and analysis, or metallic powders.
  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling.
