Senior Manager Compliance (Fintech)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid work with four days required in the office. Work schedule is 9:00–17:30, with occasional overseas travel.

What you will do

• Own key compliance functions, including regulatory filings, marketing material reviews, regulatory engagement, and corporate governance activities.
• Build relationships with regulators and industry bodies, coordinate regulatory examinations, and fulfill statutory responsibilities.
• Research legislation and advise business leaders on regulatory changes, product launches, financial promotions, and business initiatives.
• Support board and corporate governance activities, including meeting materials, minutes, resolutions, company seals, registrations, and registry filings.
• Partner with Risk, Legal, Governance, Distribution, auditors, and other stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate regulatory risks.
• Develop compliance training, support transformation initiatives, and lead projects and other ad hoc activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of experience in investment advisory, mutual fund, superannuation fund, or broker-dealer sectors.
• At least 5 years of experience in legal, compliance, internal audit, risk management, portfolio accounting, or trading and portfolio management operations.
• In-depth knowledge of mutual funds, separate account management, or similar investment products.
• In-depth knowledge of Japanese regulatory and legal regimes, regulators, and examination procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Japanese and English.

Nice to have

• Tertiary qualifications in law, economics, business, commerce, or a related field.
• Knowledge of regulatory and legal regimes in major Asia-Pacific markets.
• Training or experience with AI, blockchain, digital assets, or alternative investment products and strategies.
