Financial Controller

Location: Birmingham, England, United Kingdom; hybrid with up to 40% from home. After 12 months, working from abroad is available for up to 90 days per year.

What you will do

• Own the month-end close, reporting timetable, journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and balance-sheet controls for two Dutch entities.
• Manage consolidation inputs, group-GAAP and IFRS alignment, intercompany balances, and coordination with the Group Finance Team.
• Coordinate Dutch statutory accounts, tax, VAT, ICP submissions, statutory audits, and compliance activities with external finance advisers.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, management commentary, board reporting, financial modelling, KPI development, and dashboards.
• Partner with Sales, operations, finance, and non-finance stakeholders to improve financial insight and decision-making.
• Line-manage accounting teams in the Netherlands and UK while driving close automation, system improvements, and the transition of transactional processing to Shared Services.

Requirements

• Fully qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA, with significant post-qualification experience in financial control or a similar role.
• Experience managing financial control across multiple or international entities, including month-end close, balance-sheet control, consolidation, and foreign-entity reporting.
• Strong analytical, strategic, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency with financial systems and tools; experience with Sage Intacct, close automation, and financial controls is preferred.
• Strong MS Excel skills and the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
• Collaboration with global teams and coordination across UK and Netherlands finance functions are required.

Nice to have

• SaaS, subscription-based, or recurring-revenue experience.
• Awareness of Dutch GAAP, Dutch tax, and Dutch VAT.
• Experience with shared services or finance centralisation.
