Controls and Instrumentation Engineer

Location: London, United Kingdom; onsite. The role may include occasional international commissioning and site support. Security clearance may be required, including completion of a Baseline Personnel Security Standard check.

What you will do

• Install, wire, integrate, commission, and validate industrial control and instrumentation systems.
• Support the development of new test stands, engineering equipment, and bespoke industrial systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, PLC, and control-system issues during development and testing.
• Perform fault-finding, diagnostics, root cause analysis, verification, and acceptance testing.
• Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with design, test, and development engineers to improve system performance, reliability, and safety.

Requirements

• Experience as a Controls and Instrumentation Engineer, Control Systems Engineer, or Automation Engineer in an industrial environment.
• Strong hands-on electrical and instrumentation experience, including panel wiring, sensors, actuators, and industrial control hardware.
• Experience with PLC-based control systems, commissioning, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and hardware integration.
• Experience with SCADA systems for monitoring, control, and fault investigation.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Nice to have

• PLC programming, modifications, and commissioning experience.
• Experience with prototype systems, R&D facilities, pilot plants, or test rigs.
• Experience commissioning complex industrial systems or providing international site support.
