TL;DR
Control and Instrumentation Engineer (DCS/PLC): Owning and maintaining onsite OT and IT systems, DCS/PLC infrastructure, functional safety systems, and process control equipment at a chemical manufacturing site with an accent on safety, compliance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. Focus on programming and commissioning control systems, managing MOC and SIL requirements, resolving plant performance deviations, and supporting capital projects across site and global teams.
Location: Barry, South Wales, United Kingdom; site-based role

What you will do
- Own and manage onsite OT and IT systems, infrastructure, maintenance, troubleshooting, backups, and service performance.
- Program, modify, commission, and maintain DCS and PLC systems using formal Management of Change procedures.
- Lead functional safety activities covering DCS trip architecture, SIL, interlocks, alarm management, overrides, and IEC 61511 compliance.
- Support root-cause analysis, plant performance improvement, process safety, environmental compliance, and corrective actions.
- Provide IT/OT expertise and coordination across the Barry site, shared service center, regional teams, and global stakeholders.
- Support capital projects, budgets, contracts, purchase orders, training, and the site IT/OT knowledge base.
Requirements
- BSc degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Control Systems, Instrumentation, or Electronics.
- Advanced knowledge of DCS, PLC, and data historian hardware, infrastructure, software, design, commissioning, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS and PLC architectures including Siemens, SCADA, and Allen-Bradley.
- Knowledge of DeltaV virtualized systems, Hyper-V, VMware, failover, replication, ladder logic, Microsoft Windows, office IT, networks, and security concepts.
- Certification or experience in functional safety, IEC 61511/61508, safety instrumented systems, risk assessment, and process-industry operations.
- Fluent English is required. Experience in an operating chemical manufacturing facility is desirable.
