TL;DR
Lead Architect / Project Manager (GitLab/Renovate): Designing and rolling out a scalable Renovate solution for tens of thousands of GitLab repositories with an accent on distributed workers, automation, security, and operational observability. Focus on defining target architecture, coordinating pilot-to-full-coverage rollout waves, and solving complex API rate-limit, credential management, prioritization, and deployment challenges.

What you will do
- Define the target architecture and scalable operating model for a Renovate solution supporting tens of thousands of GitLab repositories.
- Architect self-hosted Renovate, distributed workers and runners, job scheduling, caching, repository discovery, and automated onboarding.
- Establish central configurations, shared presets, update strategies, grouping rules, time windows, auto-merge policies, and security-focused prioritization.
- Design handling for GitLab API and external registry rate limits, secure credential management, least-privilege access, monitoring, logging, dashboards, and operational KPIs.
- Plan and manage the pilot, rollout waves, and full-coverage implementation while coordinating platform operations, security, development, and management stakeholders.
- Review implementations, make architectural decisions, coach engineers, contribute to documentation and training, and work hands-on with prototypes and critical technical issues.
Requirements
- Several years of experience as a Solution Architect, Lead Architect, or Senior DevOps Engineer.
- Strong experience with GitLab in large-scale environments and practical experience with Renovate or a comparable automated dependency management solution.
- Strong DevOps and CI/CD background with experience designing scalable, distributed, highly automated solutions.
- Knowledge of infrastructure and platform architecture, APIs, authentication, credential management, security best practices, monitoring, logging, and observability.
- Proven project and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate as both a technical lead and project manager.
- Fluent English required.

- Enterprise-level Renovate experience.
- Kubernetes and containerisation experience.
- Cloud infrastructure experience.
- Experience delivering large-scale rollout or migration projects involving many repositories.
