Senior HPC Linux Systems Engineer

Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA; hybrid/onsite working arrangement may be available.

hirify.global is recruiting for work supporting the National Center for Computational Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which operates advanced scientific computing and data infrastructure.

What you will do

• Install, integrate, administer, and support HPC Linux clusters, high-speed networks, and large-scale computing resources.
• Diagnose operational problems and coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues.
• Plan and coordinate hardware and software changes through change management processes with customers.
• Write and maintain system management tools, automation scripts, and administrative procedures.
• Implement systems within the NCCS environment and perform systems performance analysis.
• Participate in a 24-hour, 7-day on-call rotation and off-hours maintenance windows.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8+ years of Linux systems experience, including Linux cluster administration.
• Experience working in classified environments with security policies, compliance frameworks, NIST, and DISA STIGs.
• Experience designing and deploying HPC systems that meet computational and security requirements in classified environments.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance with Q clearance.
• Visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale Linux environments and networked computing concepts.
• Programming and scripting experience with Bash, Python, or Go.
• Experience with Lustre and GPFS filesystems, SLURM, and Puppet.
• Project or team leadership experience, strong communication skills, and a proactive problem-solving approach.
