TL;DR
HWIL FPGA Engineer (Hardware-in-the-Loop): Building FPGA architecture and real-time hardware-in-the-loop test capabilities that connect high-fidelity 6-DOF simulations with physical radar, sensor, and mission hardware with an accent on closed-loop validation, high-performance implementations, and multidisciplinary system integration. Focus on designing FPGA interfaces, optimizing HLS-generated RTL, closing timing, verifying hardware, and debugging laboratory systems for aerospace and defense applications.

Location: Torrance, California, or Rio Rancho, New Mexico, United States

Company

hirify.global develops advanced defense systems and real-time test capabilities for rapid hardware and algorithm validation before flight testing.

What you will do

  • Lead FPGA architecture, development, integration, and verification for a Hardware-in-the-Loop test system.
  • Develop real-time FPGA solutions for closed-loop hardware testing and integrate high-fidelity 6-DOF simulation models.
  • Design interfaces connecting FPGA systems with radar hardware, sensors, and supporting electronics.
  • Generate and optimize high-performance RTL from high-level synthesis workflows.
  • Define system architectures, interfaces, verification strategies, and hardware design reviews.
  • Support FPGA bring-up, timing analysis, hardware validation, laboratory integration, debugging, and optimization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional FPGA development experience.
  • Experience with VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with Xilinx/AMD FPGA platforms and development toolchains.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • The role may require access to classified information, restricted U.S. Government sites, systems, or export-controlled information, subject to applicable authorization and eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience with HLS-generated RTL, FPGA simulation, synthesis, implementation, timing closure, and hardware debugging.
  • Experience integrating FPGA designs with complex hardware interfaces, embedded systems, high-speed interfaces, and deterministic real-time architectures.
  • Familiarity with HWIL, processor-in-the-loop, or real-time simulation environments.
  • Experience with radar, RF, avionics, guidance, navigation, control, or aerospace systems.
  • Active U.S. security clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in a multidisciplinary engineering environment spanning simulation, hardware, electrical, mechanical, software, guidance, and systems engineering.
  • Develop HWIL capabilities using a crawl, walk, run approach, from open-loop demonstrations to representative closed-loop mission testing.
  • Generous benefits package.
  • Equal opportunity employment and reasonable accommodation throughout the application and hiring process.
