Flight Test Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Torrance, California, United States; domestic travel up to 50% required

What you will do

• Develop, coordinate, and execute flight-test procedures, instrumentation plans, and test setup diagrams.
• Integrate avionics, telemetry, propulsion, and flight-control systems into flight-test articles and ground-test setups.
• Oversee pre-flight integration, ground-control setup, instrumentation configuration, and test-article configuration control.
• Participate in flight-readiness reviews, test-planning meetings, and technical interchange sessions with internal and government stakeholders.
• Document test anomalies, support root-cause investigations, and implement corrective actions.
• Support real-time mission-control operations by monitoring and troubleshooting telemetry data streams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience testing missiles, rockets, or flight vehicles.
• Hands-on experience with flight-test instrumentation, telemetry systems, and ground-control stations.
• Hands-on experience operating electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic ground-support equipment.
• Strong attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary test environment.
• Active U.S. Secret security clearance or eligibility to obtain one; access to export-controlled information and classified U.S. Government sites may require additional eligibility or authorization.

Nice to have

• Experience working with U.S. Department of Defense customers and government flight-test organizations.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, and serial/CAN communication protocols.
• Linux command-line experience and data-reduction scripting with MATLAB or Python.
• Experience troubleshooting RF systems with spectrum analyzers, ground-support equipment, electrical harnesses, and cabling.
