Software Engineer III (Backend)

Location: Hybrid; work from the assigned office a minimum of 3 days per week.

What you will do

• Design and implement backend services for the hirify.global Automate workflow engine using Java.
• Build and optimize graph-based algorithms for workflow representation, traversal, and execution at large scale.
• Develop the Automate meta-language for dynamic, variable-driven workflow composition.
• Collaborate with product, design, and infrastructure teams to define requirements and deliver features.
• Participate in code reviews, architectural decisions, engineering practices, and mentoring junior engineers.
• Join the on-call rotation and respond to production issues.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software development experience with backend expertise.
• Strong Java skills and understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience building scalable backend systems with database design, caching, and asynchronous processing.
• Knowledge of graph algorithms, optimization problems, and complex computational concepts.
• Fluent English, written and verbal, required.
• Availability to work from the assigned office at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with workflow engines, business process management platforms, or integration frameworks such as Camunda or Flowable.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps practices.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, or Kubernetes.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects, mentoring engineers, or contributing to open-source projects.
