Commissioning Engineering Intern (Power Systems)

Location: Maple Grove, Minnesota, United States; in-person commuting required under the hybrid work policy. Travel to project sites within the service area is required, with field and office work.

Salary: $19.30–$24.60 per hour

What you will do

• Support engineers with testing and commissioning of substation additions and modifications.
• Create commissioning test plans and manage commissioning documentation.
• Perform power system analysis using software tools, including protection system modeling and short circuit studies.
• Run relay tests in the laboratory and assist with automated test development.
• Participate in field visits to learn commissioning practices and observe project-site activities.
• Support power system controls design reviews and regulatory compliance analysis.

Requirements

• Current freshman-level student or higher, enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or university.
• Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
• Able to commute to the designated work location in person and travel to project sites.
• Able to work up to 40 hours per week during summer and up to 20 hours per week during the school year.
• Effective written and verbal communication, self-motivation, mechanical aptitude, and ability to work well with others.

• Coursework in power systems.
• Willingness to work in both field and office environments.
• Ability to commit to the internship for one year or longer.
